Savage
This shoe throwing is a great insult in their "culture"
Pull out the troops and let them go back to stoning each other. they seem to have a knack for throwing things.
Good to see our President Bush is quick on his feet.
As 32 Blue say's "typical and disturbing"

EV,
I'm thinking there's gonna be a couple of SS agents "retiring" in the immediate future.
I'm just going by what was shown on this video, but being in a hostile country the SS seemed to have dropped the ball here.
( If you think this should be moved to the LE only section I would agree)
I have done my share of close quarter protection over the years, and can agree that a press conference is a somewhat tough detail to diamond off or create a protective inner perimeter. But our SS seems to have been basically non-existant or at best asleep at the switch.
I can see the reporter getting one throw in. But this scvmbag got both shoes off and thrown with time to light up a cigarette afterward before the agents swarmed him. Some even came from behind a closed door behind the dais. This could have easily been a life-threatening situation. Not sure it wasn't a test run on our secret service; and if not I am sure this tape will be reviewed by our guys and more importantly by the enemy for future attacks.
Like I said, I wasn't there and am only critiquing from what I saw on the news, but if this were one of my jobs, I can guarantee you I would be out of work if I let this happen to a principal.
Agree/disagree?

I think a part of the problem is that our country is so worried about what the MSM and the world think of us and we tend to back off from the heavy manpower presence in order to please them. But what do I know, I wasn't there either.

1under... I agree wholeheartedly that the MSM and the international media looks to crucify cops/le agents with great zeal.
But a SS agent is charged with the duty to protect the life of POTUS at all cost. If it means using his/her body as a shield then that's what is done. ( Tough job - takes a special kinda person).
I saw none of that in the clips I have seen.
I wasn't there, but like I saidI have been at similar events with government dignitaries (ours and foreign).
Maybe I am missing something here but it seemed that it took an aweful long time for the agents to control the situation and no one removed the President for his protection after the fact. I would have insisted on his being brought back to a safe corridor until any and all viable threats were "in fact" and without any doubt removed.
It didn't even seem that the agents attempted to safeguard the POTUS in the aftermath.
Kinda shocking, and hopefully any and all mistakes/missteps can be rectified before the next attack. Luckily this one was just a pair of shoe. From what I have viewed, I have little doubt that this could have ended much worse.
Just my opinion.

what seemed like an easy detail in a small room became an extremely embarassing situation indeed. Lots of bodies in such a cramped place. I don't think this mouse trap will be set again.
I did see President Bush wave off his detail leader before arriving at the podium though. It would have at least looked better if someone actually got in front of the President till things calmed down. I saw hesitation. If thats monday morning quarterbacking then so be it.
Good lesson for all working in the field.
Observational psychology/ Behavioral Intelligence comes into play.
The tells always tell and had someone had better eyes on the crowd they might just might have seen this coming beforehand.
I am a FIRM believer in having eyes facing any crowd that is facing your protectee. This guy was jacked up and pissed off before he stood up.
John Hinkley was captured in a photo of a group of journalists prior to shooting Ronald Reagan and if you have seen the picture it tells a long story in his expression alone. I will try to dig it up and add it.
It's time everyone reviews their playbook. This isn't Bill Gates getting a pie in his face or Tom Cruise getting squirted with a fake mic full of water. He is the President of the United States.
I'm going to start packing a set of teleprompters from now on.

I hate Monday morning QBing myself. Hopefully lessons were learned, and policy/proceedure will be changed. As to eyes on the crowd, I couldn't agree more.
As for the reporter... The pos is lucky his family isn't mourning over his dead body. This thing could have (and I would argue, should have) gone alot differently. i.e. DPF.
Instead, I am sure he is a local hero. Truly sad.

P.S. "what seemed like an easy detail in a small room became an extremely embarassing situation indeed" It has been my experience that the quiet and seemingly easy details are the ones that get ugly quick. Usually within a short time after someone you are working with says something like, "All is quiet ", or " Things are going good tonight" etc.

Just wondering if this dumbbell would have thrown that shoe at Saddam? I mean after all did he not torture and kill many of this legionnaires buddies over the years.
No, I'm quite sure there would have been a different outcome.
More likely a case of selective balls, me thinks
We see it all the times don't we guys.

Found on the web...sung to the tune "Blue Suede Shoes"
Well, I am an Iraqi Work for the press Bush bombed my country Now it’s a mess
So I must… throw Mr. Bush my shoes Hit him right in the head when I throw Mr. Bush my shoes
I wanna knock him down Flat on his back Call him a dog Get him out of Iraq
So I must… throw Mr. Bush my shoes Hit him right in the head when I throw Mr. Bush my shoes
So now I’m in jail Folks are pissed Don’t care, but I wish I hadn’t missed! He’ll get what’s coming, this is the end I told him: “Bushie, you will sing the blues! I’ll try again, you’ll lose Size ten was too small, but I’ll get you with bigger shoes!”
