Brings chills to the spine, but this is a very somber tradition in the Philadelphia Police Department. Rest in eternal peace, Sergeant Simpson. Go with God to the special place in Heaven that He has set aside for Members of the Service. www.philly.com/philly/news/35003029.html

There is another department that calls every unit on duty at the beginning of each tour on the day of the funeral and each unit makes a short statement. That is overwhelming.
God bless this officer and may God take him to his side and watch over his family.

Military funerals have a very similar custom where the fallen soldier is called out 3 times and then the direct supervisor states "Sir, so-and-so was killed in action at blah-blah time and date". At that moment the 21-gun salute starts and then taps. One of the guys I was stationed with was killed on Christmas 2000 in Kosovo and it was heart breaking hearing his supervisor called out "Staff Sergeant Joe Suponcic was killed in action on December 25th, 2000" knowing that is was a holiday.

May Sgt. Simpson's soul rest in eternal peace and may The Almighty watch over his family.
This was truly a gut-wrenching piece to listen to.
