Man who fatally shot cop in '81 dead BY JONATHAN LEMIRE DAILY NEWS WRITER Sunday, November 2nd 2008, 11:15 PM A member of the Black Liberation Army who killed a Queens cop in 1981 has died in prison, police sources said. Bashir Hameed, who was born James York, was imprisoned for more than 20 years after he was found guilty in the murder of Police Officer John Scarangella. Scarangella and his partner, Richard Rainey, were attacked after they pulled over a van in Queens on a routine traffic stop on April 16, 1981. Two men jumped out of the vehicle with handguns blazing before the cops could even get out of their car, pumping 30 bullets into the NYPD car within seconds. Scarangella was shot twice in the head and died, while Rainey was hit 14 times but survived. Hameed and his accomplice, Abdul Majid, were convicted in 1986. Hameed was sentenced to Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock, where he died of pancreatic cancer on Aug. 30 at the age of 67, the sources said.

That is great news indeed! Used to work with Jerry Rainey, the brother of Richard Rainey, who survived that shooting. Although he lived through it, Richard was injured so badly that, on a good day, he could walk around the block. Supposedly Joanne Chesimard was in the van that day and that is why the two scumbags came out firing when the van was pulled over because it matched the description of one wanted in a string of burglaries. It happened so fast that the two cops never got out of their car. I hope York is bent over a barrel and all the demons in hell are taking their turns. Police Officer John Scarangella

A relative of mine typed up the radiology reports on the surviving PO. Doctors believed that his weight lifting saved his life, because of dense muscle tissue which stopped the 9MM bullets from injuring PO Rainey even further. Good news that this savage is in hell. Say hello to Larry Davis for us.
