Officer Figueroa was northbound on 19th Avenue responding to a shots fired call when a car collided with his near 19th Avenue and Roeser Road. The other driver had four warrants and was arrested on manslaughter and assault charges. A passenger in the other car was seriously injured. PHOENIX (AP) – Phoenix police say a 25-year-old officer was killed by a suspected drunk driver who was in the country illegally.
Officer Shane Figueroa died early in the morning while responding to a call west of downtown Phoenix.
Police say that as Figueroa was responding, 50-year-old Jose Gonzalez slammed his pickup truck into the officer’s car.
Police say there are four warrants for Gonzalez’s arrest under a different name, 2 of which are for DUI. He was booked on charges including manslaughter and assault.
Gonzalez suffered minor injuries. His passenger was seriously hurt.
Figueroa leaves behind a wife and infant daughter.QueensNyc
