North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is in a “vegetative state” after he underwent heart surgery earlier this month, a Japanese magazine says.

The weekly Shukan Gendai reported Friday that a Chinese medic sent to North Korea as part of a team to treat Kim believed a delay in a simple procedure left the leader severely ill, Reuters reported.

North Korean media hasn’t mentioned Kim’s health or whereabouts, even though reports by other media have sparked international speculation about his well-being.

The Chinese expert told the magazine that Kim clutched his chest and fell to the ground on a visit to the countryside earlier this month. A doctor accompanying Kim performed CPR and took him to a nearby hospital.

Kim, believed to be 36, needed a stent procedure, which calls for placing a tube into a congested blood vessel to allow blood to keep flowing to the heart, according to Shukan Gendai.

The hashtag #KimJongUndead was trending on Twitter but without any proof of the leader’s death.

Earlier this week, Seoul-based website Daily NK reported that Kim was recovering after undergoing a cardiovascular procedure on April 12. The outlet cited one unnamed source in North Korea.

South Korean government officials and a Chinese official with the Liaison Department challenged subsequent reports suggesting that Kim was in grave danger after surgery, Reuters said. South Korean officials said they had detected no signs of unusual activity in North Korea.

President Donald Trump has downplayed reports that Kim is ill, and an official familiar with U.S. intelligence said the government had no reason to conclude he was seriously ill or unable eventually to reappear in public, Huffington Post reported.

If he is gone maybe korea can be unified and we can get the feck out of there.

That was one good assignment when I was 8n the service. Went back and it is now an advanced country, not what it once was.

That's a very good question, Lex.  The short answer- not many.

We have a very good relationship with South Korea and they are very professional in their intelligence trade craft.  I'm sure the CIA has a good working relationship with their ROK counterparts, but even then, it's a very hard nut to crack.  

The fact that DPRK has virtually no internet access (except the very top in the Kim Dynasty) it's hard to work the cyber angle against them.  You have to read a lot between the lines to figure out what is going on- look at how busy the border cities in China are doing, look at emissions from factories, and other ancillary factors. 

One big thing to watch is the UN's World Food Programme.  I can't stand the UN but they do provide some good signals as to what is going in and out of the country.  

I believe that our government knows what is going on with Little Rocket Man.  Given that we aren't moving around military assets (at least nothing that seems to be making it into the realm of Open Source) I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 1. Our government knows what is going on and 2. They don't seem too concerned about it. 

That's just my amateur assessment of it, anyhow.

Kim Jong Un is rumored to be dead, according to a Hong Kong broadcast network, while a Japanese magazine is reporting that North Korea’s rocket man is in a “vegetative state” after he underwent heart surgery earlier this month.

A vice director of HKSTV Hong Kong Satellite Television, a Beijing-backed broadcast network in Hong Kong, claimed that Kim was dead, citing a “very solid source.” Her post on the Chinese messaging app Weibo has been shared widely on social media, according to a report in the International Business Times.

Other unconfirmed reports, attributed to senior party sources in Beijing, said an operation to insert a stent went wrong because the surgeon’s hands were shaking so badly.

If he is dead, what would that do to his status as a deity to his people, when it was expected he was going to rule for 50 yrs.

Will there be a civil war between military units? Most likely not.

Would there be panic buying? Most likely not. People will disappear or be shot and they know it.

The communist party inside of Noko is run by their own deep state, not the Kim family. His sister will take the reigns and do as she is told, while their state media will work on polishing her profile to maintain control of their impoverished people.
