The Nova Scotia RCMP arrested a 51-year-old man in connection to a shooting with “several victims” in a rural town on Sunday morning.
Cpl. Lisa Croteau, public information officer with the RCMP Nova Scotia, confirmed there are “multiple victims” but could not provide a number or say whether any people had been killed.
In a series of tweets, police said they arrested 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman who was considered “armed and dangerous.”

Nova Scotia RCMP tweeted at 10:32 p.m. EST on Saturday night that police were responding to a firearms complaint in Portapique, N.S. More than nine hours later, police said they were dealing with an active shooting investigation and warned residents to stay indoors.
The situation escalated from there as police continued to track the suspect to the communities of Glenholme, Debert and Colchester County. They warned that he may be wearing an RCMP uniform and driving a vehicle that resembles an RCMP cruiser.
The RCMP confirmed that the suspect was not an officer.

My condolences to the Mountie's family and the RCMP.
How could this happen in Canada? Isn't it supposed to be a gun free zone?

wsj.com Nova Scotia Shooting Rampage Kills at Least 10 Paul Vieira 3 minutes
Updated April 19, 2020 6:50 pm ET
OTTAWA—At least 10 people were dead after a shooting rampage in a rural part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, and a suspect was killed in a confrontation with police, Canadian law-enforcement officials said Sunday.
A police officer who responded to emergency calls to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Saturday night was among those killed.
Police said they started receiving emergency calls Saturday night in Colchester County, about 400 miles east of Maine, and found a number of casualties inside and outside a home. They also found houses on fire.
Police said people were killed in several parts of the province. “We don’t have a final count” on the death toll, said Superintendent Chris Leather, head of the RCMP’s criminal investigation in Nova Scotia. “It will certainly be more than 10. How much more I do not know.”
This ranks as one of the worst crime sprees in Canada in years. In April 2018, a man plowed a rented van into people walking along a Toronto thoroughfare, killing 10 and injuring 15.
Supt. Leather said he believed one person was responsible for the deaths in Nova Scotia. “Our officers were involved in terminating the threat.”
At a Sunday afternoon news conference, senior leaders with the RCMP in Nova Scotia said the shooting spree would weigh heavily on citizens of the province, which has a population of just under one million.

It's interesting that in mass killings like this they'll focus on the firearm but not make much of a van.
