I am hoping when they were asked who was on the mic, they both refused to point the finger at the other, no rats in a radio car. I would hope if it was my partner, for the day or otherwise, he would just own up to it. If I did it, I wouldn't let the other guy in the car go down for it. That being said, the call probably came down from on high to suspend both of them. Agreed, but I also like to think if it was my partner, we would stick together. It's a tough call.

Over the last 19 yrs., we have had plenty of cops squander the good public sympathy that has come about from the blood spilled of our fallen brothers and sisters. Now, we just look like a bunch of bums who dont know how to police the streets. Dont embarrass their memory or yourselves. I agree 100% with you Rack. I’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with men and women who have either died from COVID-19, 9/11 illnesses, or violently at the end of some skell’s gun. We’ve all gone to a local watering hole and pissed in each other’s ears about the pitfalls and problems the job has laid out for us, much in the same language the idiot used on the microphone. The BIG DIFFERENCE it was done on our own time and not in uniform. We’ve all earned the right to curse like sailors on leave. You can’t keep all that hostility, depression and anger bottled up, it’s not healthy, BUT there’s a time and a place for everything. I was mostly in plain clothes for 2/3rds of my career. I’ve had some ‘colorful’ exchanges over the years with your generic street urchins, haven’t we all. When I put that uniform for a detail etc, I was all business. That’s the same uniform I had to wear when attending too many funerals of our fallen. I would never disgrace something I hold sacred. Their memories mean too much to me. The two officers will take their medicine for that huge brain fart. Was it an excessive punishment? No worse than dying in that uniform protecting your fellow man from evil. Well said Twohands! I spend a lot of time out of my uniform and for the most part, only wear it at funerals but when I do, I wear it proudly for our brother being laid to rest, his family and for each other in support and strength. It makes me crazy seeing guys in full beards in uniform, seems as if there are more and more each time.

Under normal circumstances, I would think that this was a serious offense. But the Sheas and Monahans of 1PP could have come up with a substantially LESS punishment, nowhere near suspension, and no one (except, maybe, deBlasio) would have complained. After all the publicity about cops and the virus, and the number of cops out sick, lack of equipment, etc., they could have said that the cop was "under a lot of stress," which manifested itself in this, and let it go with a CD (if that).
Unfortunately, this is a precursor of what will happen under the present cowardly NYPD administration if something more serious occurs (think Barry & Panteleo).

This was actually Little Eddie's call. He decided to come out of his gopher hole and stand tall in his custom-made lifts, doing what he does best, defending the downtrodden against the oppressors...
