Of course, no mention will be made now about any further cuts down the road, which may affect the Uniformed Forces, but I'm sure, within the walls of City Hall, it's being spoken.
DeBlasio is the type of guy who will look at the NYPD today, see that there are almost 7,000 (or more) out sick, see that the 911 calls are being answered in reasonable amounts of time, and say, we can cut that job by, at least 8,000. After all, even in this article below, it seems that deBlasio's priorities are the massive homeless situation (he created), and maintaining adequate welfare payments and, of course, the possibility of having to pay the city's share of Medicaid.
Of course, there could be a bonus for those with 20 or more years on the job: a buy-out, in order to save the jobs of the massive number of Protected Groups hired over the past six years.
We'll see......
nypost.comDe Blasio slashes $6 billion from NYC budget over coronavirus crisisBy Julia Marsh and Nolan Hicks 3-4 minutes April 16, 2020 | 11:02am | Updated April 16, 2020 | 1:04pm New York City’s public pools will be dry this summer, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday as he outlined a staggering $6 billion worth of budget cuts caused by the coronavirus crisis.
Popular daycare and after-school programs for working parents are also on the chopping block, Hizzoner’s new $89.3 billion spending plan revealed.
“Our top priorities are simple: We will keep people safe, protect their health, make sure there is a roof over their head and that food is on their table,” de Blasio said. “There is no cost too great to keeping New Yorkers protected, but Washington must also step up. New Yorkers deserve nothing less than the full support of our federal government in this time of crisis.”
De Blasio’s latest budget projects that New York City will lose an estimated $7.4 billion in tax revenues over just a 16-month period — $2.2 billion coming from the last four months of the 2020 budget year alone — as income, hotel and sales tax revenues dry up because of the economic shutdown.
In response, de Blasio is enacting the first wide-scale spending cuts of his administration, some of them from canceling popular summer programs in city parks and city schools. The cuts include savings from shutting down the Parks Department’s pools for the summer — for a savings of $12 million.
Also cut are popular Department of Youth and Community Development programs, including BEACON, which provides more than 90 community centers for children; School’s Out New York City’s sports, arts and youth leadership programs for middle schoolers; and Cornerstones, which provides education, sports and job training for residents of public housing.
The administration had already revealed plans to zero out the nation’s largest municipal youth employment program, earning widespread criticism.
Some of de Blasio’s signature initiatives are also facing cuts, including delaying the rollout of the 3K pre-kindergarten program to three new school districts, a move that officials hope will save $43 million alone.
It’s a dramatically smaller budget proposal than the $95.3 billion budget de Blasio rolled out in January, which was already constrained by the city’s fight with Gov. Andrew Cuomo over the future of the Empire State’s Medicaid program.
And it’s $3.5 billion smaller than the $92.8 billion budget approved last year for 2020.
Hizzoner and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson must pass a budget before July 1.

Context: Bloomberg's last budget was $70 billion and balanced. Kaiser Wilhelm blew out the budget and nobody even knows where the money actually went.
It's now 1975 all over again and NY State Financial Control Board control of the NYC budget is all but assured for the first time since 1986.
Once the pandemic eases enough for people to move around, expect NYC population to drop by at least one million -- almost all taxpaying, law abiding decent folks.
It took 20+ years to crawl out of the last collapse. There won't be any crawling out of it this time.

That’s a fact. Liberalism has gone full steam ahead. Sane democrats no longer exist. NYS/NYC will break down at some point.

NYC will survive, it always does. NYC pays my pension so why would I wish it's demise. If wall street and the stock exchange were to collapse it would send shock waves around the world. How many 401k's would collapse. NYC will be fine.

REMEMBER THEIR IS NO WAY THAT HE CAN WIN OVER MOST OF THE NORTHEAST STATES. SO WHY TRY. MOST OF THE OTHER 49 STATES FEEL THAT NYC SHOULD DROP DEAD. The difference now is that EVERYONE is in the same boat and it's not just about NYC. This is the worst crisis since WW2 and everyone in the liberal quarters seems to have their hand out. Meanwhile, there is no money. It's literally just being printed and that can't continue.
Re: Gerald Ford, one of the most ridiculous pictures is seeing this clown holding that stupid Daily News headline, when he -- as Comptroller, then Mayor -- was one of the prime, if not the prime, causes of the fiscal collapse.
Right now, the NY Stock Exchange has been engaging in virtual, electronic trading for weeks. You can bet your ass, the NYSE Chairman, Jeffrey Sprecher, is wondering, "why not just move it to Atlanta already?" His wife is Kelly Loeffler, the junior US Senator from Georgia.
Once the markets pull out of NY -- which is inevitable given the constant hellfire they get from NY Democrats -- the entire tax base of both the city and state totally collapses.
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you, that's all the lefties do!

FOR THE LAST FIFTEEN YEARS THE EXCHANGE HAS BEEN THINKING OF MOVING EVERYTHING TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HUDSON. EVERYTHING CAN BE DONE OVER THERE A LOT CHEAPER THAN STAYING IN NYC. THE FLOOR OF THE EXCHANGE IS JUST THEATER, EVERY THING IS DONE ON WIRE'S.

NYC doesn't pay your pension...the NYC Police Pension System pays it, after a one-shot payment by the city to the pension system when you retired. Worry more about the pension system than the city. The city is finished with you since you cleaned out your locker. When the Cuomo's and deBlasios start talking about taking a "loan" from the pension system, then be worried. Hopefully, Democrat-controlled Lynch will be long gone from the PBA, and true union stalwarts will be in charge and say, "no."
The only people who should worry are those presently on the job, since both their jobs and pensions are on the line.

You may want to rethink that one.
"one-shot payment by the city" What is a city to you? Some magical entity?

The government would have to steal the money or there has to be a stock market collapse. It is almost fully funded. There is a real problem for the guys still on however as their raises will probably be frozen for years. With little OT it's time to go if you can

If they go after retired guys, they won't go after the pensions, which are essentially a fully funded annuity. They'll abandon their obligation to pay for health care instead. The other thing they'll do is attrition down the job again, like Bloomberg did. Kaiser Wilhelm has actually added about 4,500 cops above the level he inherited.
Also, don't forget the last 10-11 years of hires have deficient pensions, that will pay out less, due to David Paterson and the Demoncrats killing Tier2.

Meanwhile this Assclown a few days ago stated that he will be spending a total of $18 million dollars on the immigrants that cannot speak English as he is having a campaign to inform them how to protect themselves from CORONA.
My suggestion is put them all on a plane back to their motherland country, be it China, Russia, Mexico or further South.

The city will attempt to gut health care of retirees. When there are bread lines, NOBODY is going to feel bad for a bunch of guys and gals collecting checks who have just lost their medical plans.

They'll never let it happen. George Steinbrenner was going to move the Yankees to NJ. They didnt let that happen either. They already saw how their tax base was effected when they let go of the Giants and Jets. Even the Lefties have to put food on their table. At some point, the sane people will have to shove these idiots aside and take over. I want NYC to succeed. Like DBLCD stated. They pay our pension.

As I say somewhere else, standby for a big increase in "non-profits" spouting up all across the city, and a close look at the "officers" names will be a pile of well-known, and not so-well-known, names from Democrat political circles (or their spouses). And as soon as they get their certifications from the State, they will immediately seek millions from the Federal money given to the city, with them claiming to have ideas about "job placement," "job training," and a bunch of make-work "neighborhood" operations. Then, when the money runs out, the "non-profit" will just fail and disappear, but a lot of NYC Democrats getting substantially richer than they were.
And how do we know this?: ask anyone who worked in the proverbial "A" Houses in the 70s, and how a lot of vacant storefronts became occupied overnight, with people, both young and old, hanging around outside (some in some type of uniforms!) collecting minimum wage and doing nothing.
So when you hear that Trump signed a bill giving a ton of dough to "major cities," don't get your hopes up too high, and still don't make any big plans.
