The 9mm 147gr Speer Gold Dot G2 is apparently a lemon, see here- www.glocktalk.com/threads/speer-gold-dot-g2-what-happened.1709618/
handgunplanet.com/review/speer-gold-dot-g2-ballistic-test/
I reiterate something I've said repeatedly here for several years, for those of us who are civilians carrying guns for personal defense, our ammo does not need the performance characteristics of LE ammo, so there's no need to be dazzled by LE ammo and pay more for the privilege.
My research, admittedly the results of the work of others as I don't have the resources to produce or purchase 10% gelatin, temperature controlled storage and testing, etc narrowed just a handful of similarly performing 9mm personal defense rounds. It comes down to a combination of penetration and expansion, and our personal defense shooting environment will likely be different than the LE deadly force environment so it doesn't need to penetrate all the barriers an LE round should after 4 layers of denim.
After factoring in penetration, expansion and recoil, the ammo I carry when armed with 9mm is the Federal standard velocity 124gr HST HP. If recoil isn't an issue the +P tends to expand just a little wider. Don't take my word for it, look around for yourselves there's plenty of data on most ammo posted on the interweb to make an informed decision rather than on marketing.

I was looking at this because the guy who does my qualifications got some from the Bureau and i happened to see it this morning. So, money saved. I still have plenty of Pow'rBall, EFMJ, and Critical Defense in all three calibers. I'll ask him next time we get to qualify.

Dumb question.... 5.56 and .223 interchangeable ? Take a look at your barrel . If it is stamped 5.56, you can use both. If not, stick with .223 only.

The Ruger Mini 14/Ranch Rifle is an exception- Ruger owner manuals state the .223 marked barrels are actually designed to fire both .223 and 5.56 and I can attest hundreds of thousands of 5.56 rounds have exited my 1989 era rifle without issue.
