I'm hearing that an off-duty MOS (an Inspector) was killed on his bike in the 45 Precinct this morning. RIP boss. Prayers to you and your family.

I was looking into buying a bike right around the same time I started dating the woman who is now my wife. When she found out that I was looking into getting a bike she made it known that our relationship would be over if I bought one. She had a few friends from high school and college who had been killed on bikes and she was not about to get involved in a relationship with anyone who rode a bike. Fifteen years later, I am glad she talked some sense into me.

I too wanted to buy a bike but three times I got serious I about guying on I responded to three separate motorcycle accidents all involving some sort of very serious injury. One of the accidents resulted in the death of the cyclist. So I got the message and didn't buy a bike.

A good looking guy who resembled Ryan O'Neal the actor sat next to me in my college class 45 years ago. When the class was over he got up to leave and I saw then he had only one arm. He was 19 years old and when we became friends I asked him what happened. He was doing only 45 miles an hour when he hit an oil slick and went sideways off the bike and the concrete was like sandpaper tearing at his arm. By the time the ambulance came and got him to the ER the Doctors had no choice but to amputate. Any thoughts I had then about getting a bike when out the window!

BY FAR, motorcycle accidents are caused, not by the rider, but by idiotic car drivers.
It's just that the injuries are usually much more severe to the rider.
If it's a new rider, things can get away from you but in this case it sounds like the Insp. wasn't at fault.
The cop was going straight and the truck turned into him.
When I took my 'Motorcycle Safety Course' before getting my license, the instructor specifically warned us to be on the lookout for people turning left into us because it happens all the time.
Not much of a contest between a bike and a dump truck.

I won’t post the name until I hear it publicly, but the three people who knew him said he was a gentleman.
Sad.
Probably a Death Gamble case but in the big picture it doesn’t matter now. RIP sir.

We went out every day and night on patrol. Most times the civilians we interacted with, didn’t treat us very well. But I will never forget the kindness of my Brothers. Many years ago, I was riding my Harley., in Suffolk County. Suddenly an illegal alien driving a big GMC truck hit me then instead of stopping, she hit the gas , and hit me again. She fled the scene, left me in the roadway. A Suffolk PD cop grabbed her a block away. Meanwhile two Emergency service cops , who were my friends responded to the scene. They loaded me into the helicopter, I went down and they brought me back with the difibillator. In the ER I bled out and received 30 units of blood. My left leg, ankle and both shoulders were shattered. I was paralyzed for the first 8 months, on a feeding tube and remained hospitalized for 17 months....however NOT A DAY OR NIGHT went by in all that time was I ever alone. My family and my family of blue were with me through it all. Guys showed up in the morning after a late tour, with bagels for the staff. .after the 4x12 the guys brought pizzas for all the midnight staff. I would thank each and everyone of my Brothers, and they said don't you remember when you did this for me? I never felt that friendship was a scale you did this now I have do that. I just did what was right, and it paid me back a thousand times over. My heart pumps BLUE blood. Please safe safe!

You are LUCKY because you lived and got to tell this tale, and I am LUCKY because I got to hear you tell it. 2. ALL OF US, uniformed, civilian or citizen supporters are fortunate to be part of this BLUE family. EVP, if LUCKY would consent... this story should be anchored to the top of the board, and should be a required read for every rookie. I’d go one better and tell LUCKY to tell your tale to a journalist and memorialized somehow. Thank you for YOUR service, Lucky...and to all of you on here.

I try and I try but I just can't get motorcyclists to not whiteline, buzz my Sideview mirror on an empty road and do wheelies in traffic. Look out for motorcycles, because God knows they aren't looking out for themselves.

Is it me or is that article tacky. ( The brass) was cruising south on East Tremont Avenue around 8 a.m. when he was hit by the truck, which was turning left on Waterbury Avenue, sources said. His ( yellow-and-black ride) was seen laying on its side in the intersection after the crash, fragments of debris scattered around it.
Three names on the by-line and the most flippant article about someone's death.

I had a HD for a short time, I can’t tell you how many times someone pulled out from a side street, made a left turn, or changed lanes where I had to take defensive action.. I figured it was only a matter of time... and no I wasn’t the best of riders.
Rest In Peace
