Metro NYPD officer busted for selling marijuana in Brooklyn By Amanda Woods January 19, 2019 | 11:11am |
Cops busted one of their own for allegedly selling marijuana in Brooklyn Police officer Gilberto Mercedes, 42, was arrested around 5:25 p.m. Thursday for hawking “a quantity of marijuana” at Knickerbocker and Putnam avenues in Bushwick, authorities said. He was charged with criminal sale of marijuana and criminal possession of marijuana, police said. He was also hit with an endangering the welfare of a child charge — it wasn’t immediately clear if a minor was with him at the time. Mercedes, who is stationed in the Bronx, has been with the NYPD for 14 years, cops said. He earned more than $85,000 last year, records show. He was suspended without pay following the incident. Police were unable to provide any further details Saturday morning, saying that the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau is investigating.

Well, that was 14 years (and just 6 from a pension for life) down the drain. Was it worth it, dumbass?

I guess he heard that King Cuomo was going to legalize marijuana for all, and figured he'd get in on the ground floor.

WTF is wrong with people? In the not too distant past, I would have sworn this was an article from The Onion, but now, I suppose its just par for the course.

14 years, sounds like one of the 25K hires. This job gets more embarrassing by the day. Between the bearded fat kids, perps, 3rd world types, midgets, and other sundry carnival acts, it's a tragic comedy.

14 years in, only making 85k? Sounds like the PD was only his side gig...or he's already been sidelined for some other shenanigans.

In not surprised at all. Seen plenty of cops get busted for similar things.
The NYPD is about as good or bad as it gets, depending on what gets in the papers.
Integrity and dignity is an individial responsibility. Its not a department quality.

It is a department "quality" when the department turns a blind eye to the lack of those things, despite their "intensive" background checks, and, as in other cases, find ways around a "potential recruit's" arrest record, to fill a political need. For those too young to remember: having three unpaid parking tickets was an automatic disqualification from being hired, unless you got it straightened out by a date certain, as set by your investigator. And, God Forbid, you should have some type of moving violation or suspension on your driver's license years in the past, corrected or not.
Now a gun collar on a candidate's record, plead out to DisCon (despite what the A/O says) is overlooked to advance the political agenda of the department.

Good Bye Perp!
How many Cops have been killed (Det. Luis Lopez comes to mind) or hurt because of marijuana and this perp is going to sell weed on the corner of Knick and Putnam? Screw him!!

"Down these mean streets a man must go, who is not himself mean, Who is neither tarnished or afraid.
He must be the best man in his world,
and good enough for any world.
If there were enough like him, I think the world would be
a safe place to live in, And yet not too dull worth living in."
Author Raymond Chandler describing his character Private Det. Philip Marlowe
