Mugging one taxpayer allegedly wasn’t enough — now this indicted NYPD cop wants to rob New Yorkers of $50 million!
Officer Anthony Delacruz — who is accused of taking part in a bizarre robbery during which he allegedly swiped a man’s pants before claiming to be the victim of a theft — has filed a $50 million notice of claim to sue the city over the incident, saying he was the one framed.
The now-suspended Delacruz says he was leaving a nightclub one night in May 2016 with some ladies when a group surrounded his car and held a gun to his neck, demanding his jewelry.
Delacruz says a fight ensued, and he told one of the men to “take off his clothes” so he couldn’t “escape,” the filing says.
But the officer was arrested for the strange Bushwick hold-up. Delacruz was indicted on various charges in January for allegedly robbing a random man at gunpoint with his service weapon — which he purportedly fired — and then having the victim arrested on bogus charges after he ordered him to remove his pants. Prosecutors said he took the man’s pants, cell phone and cash.
The cop faces up to 25 years behind bars if convicted.
Delacruz’s notice to sue says he was framed because the “NYPD and the Office of the District Attorney County of Kings have a history of falsely arresting officers of color based upon racial stereotyping i.e. officers of color are drug dealers, ‘perps’ and other derogatory terms based upon ‘looks’ and ‘flashy’ lifestyle.”
The spokesman with the Brooklyn DA’s Office said they stand by the indictment.
