I am sure a few on here know for sure what this is all about. On Thursday of this week, more than 70,000 New York pistol permit holders woke up as felons. Law-breakers. What was their crime? They didn’t register their handguns with the state. Now, why on God’s green earth would they have to do that? Emperor Gov. Andrew Cuomo rammed through the NY Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act in 2013. This insidious law requires pistol permit holders to register their handguns and recertify their licenses every five years. Failure to do so is a Class E felony APN Daily Stories NYPD Ignored 1500 requests from Feds to Detain ILLEGAL Immigrantswww.americanpolicenews.com/nationalny/2-9-18

Failure to do so is a Class E felony Good grief, at least get the facts straight. The NYS Penal Law has always required pistol permit holders to "register their handguns with the state", they're listed on your permit. What the SAFE Act enacted is a new 5 year renewal cycle that prior didn't exist. So yes, some inattentive permit holders may not be cognizant of that, but worse, because of this new deadline the State can't keep up with the volume of renewals which surely renders many permit-holders non-compliant so now they're felons.

Selling uranium to the Russians results in nothing but 11 rounds in a magazine puts you in the slammer.

You'd have thought they'd have been semi-intelligent and required recertification to the NYS Police database to be keyed-in on permit holders' birthdays, instead of everyone on one date. Seems to work well with drivers license renewals.
