Dustoff... It’s my recollection that provided you have put in the time, you can retire at any point you choose. I believe that NYPD can only deny you the famous “good guy letter” That's a bit of confusion. Just because you have 20+ years does not mean the dept cannot charge you then fire you. The part that you are referring to is AFTER an MOS has retired and is convicted of a misdemeanor, that his pension cannot be revoked. This Sgt is still an active MOS, so his pension is NOT a safe bet. You can be fired after a dept trial and lose everything. An example are the guys in the MOS licensing division. One MOS was modified with 25+ years on the job, was told not to retire and did attempt to try, was immediately flagged and fired. The job can do things that does not require a civil conviction.
