Just look at the sizes of the combatants. The old guy is taller, heavier (no fat on him) and obviously in good shape. I'd say the guy was an ex-boxer or maybe a steel worker in his youth.
Someone who did a lot of physical work with his hands.
Not someone to try and impress some girl by starting a fight with.
Let alone the attitude needed for someone to wear a shirt like that.
