Excellent statements by Rep. Rogers.
As an aside, we have Socialized Medicine here. I can tell you up front.....compared to health coverage in the USA it sucks. There's no other way to describe it.
Here's a "frinstance" for you. If your wife had nerve damage to a hand, went to her primary health care doctor, who shipped her on to a specialist, and it was determined that a minor operation was needed to correct the problem, how long would it take for her to get that operation? A month? Maybe two? Tops?
OK....this has actually happened to my wife here. She saw our family doctor, who scheduled her to be checked by a specialist. Time until the specialist can actually do an exam? Six months....take it or leave it. And God forbid you can't make the appointment! You'll go to the back of the line....another six months.
At this rate she'll get her hand surgery (or whatever they decide needs to be done) in about a year or so. That's IF she can get an appointment in the six months after the specialist sees her.
Here's another news flash for anyone who might think socialized medicine is the cat's ass.
The Accident Compensation Corporation, (ACC), the people who handle all claims large and small here, are flat broke. Only 4 million people in New Zealand and this outfit is broke! They now need to charge more for car registrations and the price of gasoline is going up to cover it all, as well as an increase in worker's contributions, to make it all work. This is the kind of thing that happens once the Government....any governmment...gets involved in running a business.

Health care coverage in the USA might be a bit convoluted but it works for the most part. And it's better than whatever is in second place.
I kept my coverage in the USA....my town's administrator hates my guts for doing so as they have to continue paying for it even though I'm only there 3 weeks out of the year, but you can bet your boots that if I need immediate care (ie. operation) I'll be flying home for it. The doctors here hardly speak English. A lot of Indians, Asians and God-knows what else are to be found in the hospitals here. I'm sure there's some good ones but I'll play the short odds on this one and take an American doctor any day.
Here's a scary one.....right after 9-11 I had to go to a dental clinic for an impacted tooth. Next thing you know, I'm in a dental chair being faced by a lady....with a large needle in her hand....and she's wearing a burka. And she spoke absolutely no English. Oooohh! Not a good feeling, staring into the eye slits of someone you can't see. Like being held up by a masked bandit. (No offense to the Lone Ranger).
So you say socialized health care might not be a bad idea, eh?? Think again.....!
