The series of books about the main character, Dave Robicheaux, is from the author James Lee Burke. I've read pretty much everything he's put out, in order. Highly recommended.
They made a movie from another book in the series, Heaven's Prisoners, but since it starred Alec Baldwin it sucked moose ****.
