NY man settles "GETOSAMA" license plate battle HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) -- A Long Island man is calling it "a nice Christmas present" to receive his registration and license plates that read "GETOSAMA." Retired New York City police officer Arno Herwerth had ordered the vanity plates in 2007 as a reminder that Sept. 11 mastermind Osama bin Laden remains at large. The plates were delivered but the state Dept. of Motor Vehicles quickly ordered them returned. The DMV cited a rule banning plates that could be considered objectionable. The Hauppauge resident filed a federal complaint and the DMV relented in February 2008. Herwerth initially rejected the offer because the DMV wouldn't pay attorney's fees. But Herwerth said he decided to settle the case. He says the DMV is overnighting his registration so he can put the plates on for Christmas. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Way to go Arno.....
