I hope the PBA sends a stern message to the citizens of this great city. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The PBA can send any message it wants. The fact of the matter is that like the cops themselves, the PBA has no bearing on civilians, nor do civilians care what Pat Lynch has to say. What's he going to say? This is a travesty of justice? Too many people think that the cops "get what's coming to them", Tell the rank and file to slowdown? Nah, ain't gonna happen my friend.
The only message Lynch can send is to his cops. And the message should be one of
Your responsibility off duty is to call 911. Other than that, do NOT put yourselves in a position where you can get hurt or killed. Not only may the city not indemnify you, your family will not see justice served on your behalf. Now I know that this goes against most of our thinking, because we are taught to act, not react. However, over the past three days we have seen two acquittals, one mistrial and one paltry conviction. The tide of the city is and has been turning for two decades. Crime may or may not be down, depending to whom you speak, but the mindset of the city is one of contempt for the very men and women who keep that pseudo lord-of-the-flies mentality in check.
and all we can do is pray.
