You are correct about getting away from OPEC, and that means to focus completely on alternative energy sources, for the economy, for national security, and for the environment. Opening up new drilling only delays that process. I am no Obama fan at all, but if he makes this a priority, as opposed to the current administration with has been aligned with big oil for years, I will definitely give him a pass on other things which are not so important in the long run.
