It doesn't matter if the possible yield isn't enormous in this one field. What does matter is that drilling is about to start.
Yes, electric, solar, hydro-electric, nuclear and other alternative energy sources have to be fast-tracked but this is, at least, a step in the right direction. One of the biggest criticisms of drilling in ANWAR is that the benefit will not be realized for years. So what? It has to be done sooner or later. If we had done it years ago, we wouldn't have the same problems now.
One of the main reasons for the drop in fuel prices has been the lack of demand because people have less money and don't want to pour what little they have left into their gas-tanks.
Can you imagine where the price of gas would be now if this wasn't the case?
We have to do anything we can to get away from the OPEC extortionists.
