what seemed like an easy detail in a small room became an extremely embarassing situation indeed. Lots of bodies in such a cramped place. I don't think this mouse trap will be set again.
I did see President Bush wave off his detail leader before arriving at the podium though. It would have at least looked better if someone actually got in front of the President till things calmed down. I saw hesitation. If thats monday morning quarterbacking then so be it.
Good lesson for all working in the field.
Observational psychology/ Behavioral Intelligence comes into play.
The tells always tell and had someone had better eyes on the crowd they might just might have seen this coming beforehand.
I am a FIRM believer in having eyes facing any crowd that is facing your protectee. This guy was jacked up and pissed off before he stood up.
John Hinkley was captured in a photo of a group of journalists prior to shooting Ronald Reagan and if you have seen the picture it tells a long story in his expression alone. I will try to dig it up and add it.
It's time everyone reviews their playbook. This isn't Bill Gates getting a pie in his face or Tom Cruise getting squirted with a fake mic full of water. He is the President of the United States.
I'm going to start packing a set of teleprompters from now on.
