P-51 MUSTANG...CADILLAC OF THE SKIES...P-51s .... Gray Eagles ...It is a beautiful tail dragger - top speed about 440 mph (Speed of sound around 760 mph) - extremely fast for a non-tricycle, gear aircraft; especially during WWII. During Viet Nam, they were using A-1 Spads for air support - top speed around 345 mph. I believe they used the P-51 at the beginning of the Korean War as well.
