Don't know if anyone else picked it up, but in the April 10th issue of the The Chief (It gets to me in print about 2 weeks late it seems, they wonder why they have problems) they ran a small but front and center piece that the headline reads "To Our Readers and Advertisers"....in part, it reads:
"As we strive to continue bringing you the quality journalism geared to the interests and needs of government workers, their unions and those looking to find jobs in civil service that has been our hallmark for 124 years, we are asking that you help sustain those efforts. Whether by subscribing to the The Chief-Leader or advertising in our pages, please do what you can to assist."
So, I'm on the fence about this plea, which of course we know is consistent with every other print rag still rolling. The thing was started in 1924 aimed at FDNY firefighters. My Pop was Transit Authority and as a kid I always remember the Chief lying around the house. It really hasn't changed much. The writing is amateur in nature and style; they use the same stock photos that really look bad, and it seems as of late that the paper has sided with the DC37 crowd and always seems to knock the PBA and other uniformed unions. Still, it does contain information that is not found anywhere else.
I subscribe in print and digital, and the print still goes to my Dad who, at the age of 88, still punches the TA in the gut and gets his pension check, as he says, "Like Clockwork." He still likes to read it and that's the major reason I still subscribe.
Wondering what some of you think of it these days? My Dad won't be around forever and when he goes I'm thinking so will my subscription but you never know.
