eh... the problem is it was transmitted to the papers. It embarrassed the entire job, not just the precinct CO. The incident has no doubt made the national news. Even if it didnt, there are those out and about picking up the extra load every day and do the job without humiliating the next cop that has to answer a call out on the streets.
We already have copy cats that go out of their way to intimidate and harrass cops. If you arent looking for a collar, or summons, dont trade profanity barbs. Move along. Turn up the radio and look the other way. It isnt worth the trouble.
Their actions deserve more than highway therapy. They deserve to get bounced from their sector, bounced from their precinct and finish their careers doing something other than patrol. If it were two rookies, I'd say pinch them and send them to sensitivity training. You arent going to get much change from two guys who can walk out the door in the immediate future.
No one will remember names. But everyone will remember the uniform, RMP and the NYPD at large.
Over the last 19 yrs., we have had plenty of cops squander the good public sympathy that has come about from the blood spilled of our fallen brothers and sisters. Now, we just look like a bunch of bums who dont know how to police the streets. Dont embarrass their memory or yourselves.
