If anyone should bear the responsibility for this, it should be the rear admiral (Rear Adm. Stuart P. Baker), his immediate superior, who evidently did nothing OR dragged his feet on seeking resolution to the coronavirus outbreak. There's also the possibility that the admiral did address the issue to HIS superiors but there was no immediate response from them...something we might never know. The Navy's response to the issue of Captain Crozier's efforts to make someone...anyone!...sit up and take notice that sailors were contracting the virus at alarming rates was commendable IMHO. And where was the Navy's vaunted medical community? They should have been squarely on top of this situation before it began spiraling out of control.
The crew obviously likes Captain Crozier a lot, something that was so obvious upon his being relieved of command.
I know one thing: the 10's of thousands of moms, dads, wives and children, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles of the sailors aboard the Teddy Roosevelt owe a great deal of respect to the Captain for doing what he did on behalf of their kids. We as a country should also show Captain Crozier the respect he deserves. He apparently thought more of his crew than his own captaincy.
He should be reinstated as Captain of the USS Roosevelt WITHOUT PREJUDICE and if there's anything that needs to be investigated (and no doubt it has already begun) it should be the higher-ups who dragged the chain on this matter.
