I file electronically also and I always owe. I haven't seen a refund in years. I pay the bill by having them debit my bank account. I also collect Social Security and that's direct deposited into that same account. One way or another, they should have my info but I haven't heard a thing.
To check on what info they have on you, you must access their site. The big problem is that you need an IRS Pin # to access the site. You get that pin when you have a fraud problem with your tax return or you can alternately get it by registering at another IRS site. The only problem is that like all Government websites, it's broken. They do ,at least, warn you in advance that they're having problems. My guess is that they're using Obama Era holdovers to write the computer programs for this System. It will only let you get so far and then it breaks. The first time it allowed me to enter my name, address, SSAN, a credit card in my name, email etc and let me get as far as entering my cell phone number so they could send me a text to verify my identity. It then it told me the number was not listed in my name (it is) and they rejected me. I had to go back to the beginning and start over. I tried again with another phone number I have but then I got a message saying that due to the Covid Virus there was no one available to verify the number and I had to start over. I tried one more time and this time I was told that there was a discrepancy in my address (there wasn't). I was then told that I had failed three times and that I had been locked out of the system for 24 hours. God Bless America. I'm going to give up and wait to see if they send me a check. Thank God I'm not desperate for the money. I pity those who are.
