We went out every day and night on patrol. Most times the civilians we interacted with, didn’t treat us very well. But I will never forget the kindness of my Brothers. Many years ago, I was riding my Harley., in Suffolk County. Suddenly an illegal alien driving a big GMC truck hit me then instead of stopping, she hit the gas , and hit me again. She fled the scene, left me in the roadway. A Suffolk PD cop grabbed her a block away. Meanwhile two Emergency service cops , who were my friends responded to the scene. They loaded me into the helicopter, I went down and they brought me back with the difibillator. In the ER I bled out and received 30 units of blood. My left leg, ankle and both shoulders were shattered. I was paralyzed for the first 8 months, on a feeding tube and remained hospitalized for 17 months....however NOT A DAY OR NIGHT went by in all that time was I ever alone. My family and my family of blue were with me through it all. Guys showed up in the morning after a late tour, with bagels for the staff. .after the 4x12 the guys brought pizzas for all the midnight staff. I would thank each and everyone of my Brothers, and they said don't you remember when you did this for me? I never felt that friendship was a scale you did this now I have do that. I just did what was right, and it paid me back a thousand times over. My heart pumps BLUE blood. Please safe safe!
